If you make granola yourself, you not only save yourself a trip to the supermarket: The crunchy muesli you create yourself is also a much healthier breakfast alternative to the many sugar-heavy ready-made mueslis. We’ll show you how you can make healthy granola yourself.
If you want to make granola yourself, you will primarily need oatmeal. These are combined with other healthy foods. For example, you can use a variety of nuts, dried fruits, seeds, or coconut chips. Refine your granola with anything you like.
If you pay attention to a low amount of carbohydrates in your diet or if you are eating high-protein, you simply combine the ingredients in your granola accordingly. The homemade crunchy muesli also offers many options for allergy sufferers .
NO SUGAR TRAP: SWEETEN GRANOLA HEALTHILY
Unlike ready-to-use crunchy muesli, your homemade granola does not contain any refined sugar. Products from the supermarket are often real sugar traps: around 25 grams of white sugar are used for 100 grams of muesli.
We have a healthier alternative: Give your personal muesli the necessary sweetness with honey, agave syrup or maple syrup.
GRANOLA RECIPE FOR YOUR HEALTHY BREAKFAST
Basically, you can use very different ingredients for your granola. Instead of nuts, you can add dried fruits, for example. If you don’t have coconut oil in the house, conventional butter will do the same. Follow our basic recipe and adapt it to your preferences.
INGREDIENTS AND PREPARATION: THIS IS HOW YOU MAKE YOUR GRANOLA
You need: 300 g oat flakes, 100 g nuts, 80 g coconut oil, 50 ml liquid sweetness (such as honey, maple or date syrup), 2 teaspoons cinnamon
Preheat the oven to 180 ° C top/bottom heat (convection: 160 ° C).
Mix the oatmeal with the chopped nuts in a bowl.
Put coconut oil or butter in a saucepan and melt over low heat.
Add liquid sweetness and cinnamon to the oil and stir.
Pour the mixture over the oatmeal and stir well.
Spread the granola on a baking tray lined with baking paper.
Bake in the oven for 10 to 15 minutes, turning once. The granola is ready when it has turned brown.
After cooling, crumble and refine with other ingredients, such as coconut chips, dried fruits or cocoa nibs.
Tip: The baking time can vary slightly from oven to oven. Make sure that the granola doesn’t burn!
STORAGE OF GRANOLA: THIS IS HOW IT STAYS CRISPY
So that the granola stays nice and crispy for a long time after preparation, you should store it airtight. Make sure to wait until the muesli has cooled down completely before filling it. Then put it in a suitable container, such as a storage jar, crushed.
If you store the granola in a cool place, you can keep it for up to two weeks and enjoy it with every breakfast.
GRANOLA DOESN’T GET CRISPY: THAT MAY BE THE REASON
If your granola just doesn’t get crispy, it may be due to the baking temperature and time, but also to the ingredients.
Make sure to use liquid sweetness and liquid fat. This is the only way to create the perfect crunchy muesli. Always bake your granola on baking paper. Otherwise, it can stick to the sheet metal. Bake the muesli at 180 ° C top/bottom heat. Turn it once while baking, for example with a fork.
The ideal baking time is between 10 and 25 minutes, depending on the amount of granola. Keep an eye on the granola and get it out of the oven earlier if necessary. The granola should be brown, but not too dark, otherwise, it will turn bitter. The granola needs to cool completely before you crush it. Only then is it crispiest.
