While at a young age the skin remains elastic and taut without much effort, mature skin needs more intensive care.
In the course of life, the skin loses its firmness and elasticity. To what extent depends on various factors. Good care cannot stop the natural aging of the skin, but it can reduce the signs of aging a little.
“In this way, the skin’s moisture content can be significantly improved, skin firmness and elasticity can be increased, and water loss can be reduced.
The surface of the skin can also be noticeably smoothed and the skin barrier strengthened, ”explains Birgit Huber from the Association of Body Care and Detergents (IWK).
Care starts with cleaning
Proper cleaning is important before applying cream and the like. Here you should be careful not to excessively degrease the skin.
The IWK recommends cleaning products in the acidic pH range, as mature skin is much more sensitive to alkaline products such as soaps and strong foaming agents.
The best way to do this is to slightly lather the washing cream with water and massage it gently into damp skin, avoiding the area around the eyes.
Then rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water and then clarify the skin with a gentle facial toner.
Sun protection and care substances
If a day cream is applied after cleansing, the experts recommend products that strengthen the skin’s resistance.
Ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, liposomes, or vitamins can stimulate cell activity and replenish deposits.
Creams with a high sun protection factor prevent light-induced skin aging and protect against harmful environmental influences.
The IWK recommends applying a rich night cream before going to bed. “At night, mature skin needs care that supports its need for regeneration and relaxation. Only in this way can she build up the resilience that she needs again the next day, ”says Birgit Huber.
The night care is gently massaged into the face, neck, and décolleté after cleansing.
